PLEASONT ROBINS III, ARTIST
Pleasont Luke Robins possessed an extraordinary gift which was discovered by his drafting teacher, a Mr. Pruissen, when Pleasont was a 13 year old freshman at Lane Tech High School in Chicago. Pruissen submitted Pleasont's technical drawings to The Art Institute of Chicago, believing them to be more like works of art than a mere schematic arrangement of parts on paper. Before Pleasont realized, he was the youngest person enrolled within the prestigious institution after receiving a letter welcoming him into the SAIC (Students of the Art Institute of Chicago) program. Pleasont studied different mediums for nearly 3 years before attending college. As a child, Pleasont was honored with the title of Mayor Of Chicago For A Day and was written in the newspaper for saving a drowning little girl when he was a grade school lifeguard. Pleasont was always an avid reader due in large part to his dad whom worked at a paper manufacturing company, and was often given boxes of damaged books to discard. Instead of doing so, he'd bring them home to Pleasont where they'd be mentally devoured cover to cover. Some of Pleasont's favorite authors as a young boy were: Edgar Allan Poe, Alexandre Dumas, William Shakespeare, Pliny the Elder, Homer, and Ovid.
Now, the talent which was recognized in Pleasont Robins so very many years ago can be admired through his Rocking Art, Designer Furniture, 3 Dimensional Puzzle Art, Murals, and Toy Art. In some circles he is known as the "Black Michelangelo" albeit Pleasont is far too humble to acknowledge such lofty praise. Instead he attributes the magnificent work he's done for more than 4 decades to the teachings of his father, mentor, and namesake, Pleasont Robins. Pleasont's 5 children - Chaka, Precious, Marcus, Nikki, Salewa, and grandchildren, Nathaniel and Lani are also the driving forces in his life.
Pleasont utilizes an ancient technique known as "Mortise and Tenon" when constructing his pieces. The types of wood he chooses are Coniferous and Deciduous, i.e., Ponderosa Pine, Douglas Fir, Cedar (Red & White) Spruce, Southern Yellow, Hemlock, Cypress, Redwood, Oak (Red & White), Maple, Walnut, Mahogany, Purple Heart, Poplar, Indian Rosewood, and Bubinga. The Rocking Animals (Art) have real lashes, glass eyes, and saddles made of padded leather. It's rare that Pleasont will use paint when coloring his works of art, as he deems it imperative that the beauty of the wood's grain is experienced for its warmth and organic appeal. For this reason he combines different stains to achieve the perfect hue thereby enhancing the wood rather than concealing it under thick coats of pigment.
Pleasont Robins works with his clients to produce a piece which is flawless, one-of-a-kind, and timeless. You will always be pleased, as he ensures that your vision will become an artistic reality.
